A guide to your forthcoming appointment

Thank you for your patience whilst we have been unable to offer face to face dental care.

We are delighted to be able to offer you an appointment. However during the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, your visit to Berkhamsted Dental Practice will be noticeably different.

We realise some of these changes will appear quite intrusive and difficult to comply with but we are following the advice of our regulators and Government in order to offer you as much dental care as we can whilst keeping you, our practice team and our wider community safe.

We ask you to complete the Covid-19 Self Assessment form on the evening before your dental appointment (but no more than 24 hours beforehand). If we do not receive a completed form by 8pm then we will not be able to see you the following day.

Your responses will of course be treated in confidence. If you do answer yes to any of the questions we would ask that you do not attend the practice and follow Government advice regarding self isolation. Please phone or email us when you are able to and we will re-schedule your appointment.

Having filled in the assessment form, should you be taken ill with COVID-19 symptoms on the day of your appointment, please do not attend. Please let us know of your change in condition by phoning the practice on 01442 865646.

We also ask all patients, whether new or existing patients, to complete a confidential Medical History Questionnaire before each course of treatment. The relevant online forms can be accessed under the ‘Book an Appointment’ drop-down menu at the top of our website.

We would advise you to travel to Berkhamsted Dental Practice by car, avoiding public transport if possible. Upon arrival, we would ask you to wait in your car. Please ring the practice on 01442 865646. We will make a note of your phone number and ring you back shortly before we are ready to see you.

If you have travelled to the practice with anyone else they should wait in the car. Accompanying persons will not be allowed to enter the practice (Children under 16 years of age can and must be accompanied by one parent).

Please wear a face covering of some sort for your visit to the practice (e.g. mask or scarf). Please bring only a minimum amount of personal possessions i.e. mobile phone, keys, wallet & a Biro. Please also bring a list of any medication you are taking.

Upon arrival at the front door please use the entry-phone buzzer to access the building. We ask you to use the hand sanitiser at the top of the staircase. One of our team will meet you there to check your temperature using an ear thermometer. If you are found to have a raised temperature (greater than 37.8°C) we will be unable to allow you access to the building. You will be advised to return home immediately and follow Government advice to self-isolate.

You may be asked to take a seat in the waiting room briefly before one of our team escorts you to the treatment room. As you enter the treatment room we will ask you to wash your hands before taking a seat.

Your dentist will already be wearing a mask or respirator. We appreciate that these can make communication more difficult so please bear with us. Whilst we will endeavour to provide as much dental care as we can there may be certain limitations in what we can offer. We will discuss all possible options with you, including delaying some treatment until restrictions have been relaxed further.

We would ask that you visit the bathroom and brush your teeth before you leave home. If you do need to use the toilet facilities whilst at the practice please let one of the practice team know and we will arrange access to the facilities.

At the end of your appointment we will ask you to replace your mask or scarf. One of our team will escort you back to reception to arrange payment. We are sorry that we can only take card payments at this time.

Thank you for your understanding. We very much hope things will return to normal very soon! Keep safe & well.

Kind regards,

Claire Rogers & John O’Grady
